I am not really sure how to start this...I guess because I did not know what to expect out of a Swedish New Year's Eve. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined!! Some family friends who have a son and daughter my age came over and celebrated with us while Maria and Axel went out with their friends.
We had my favorite food: Seafood!!! Crab, lobster, shrimp, the whole deal!Of course I did bring in a little United States/Weiss tradition with the poppers and paper crowns :)
We played a game kind of like pictionary but you describe the word using other words until you fill up a board with words that your partner guessed correctly. It is called Med Andra Ord (With other words) and of course all the words are Swedish and all the descriptions were giving in Swedish...well, svengelska in my case :) Guess who won?! Ya that's right my team!!! Now I know, I know you are probably thinking it was just beginners luck BUT!! we played two times and last time I checked beginners luck only works the FIRST time you play something. And my team won both times!! Ha! take that Swedes :) I know your langauge better than you do :)
oh well I guess I should say that I also got double the time as everyone else... but no one needs to know that
We had this delicous pastry for dessert! The bowl type crusty thing is essentially sugar and almonds with ice cream and berries in the middle.
When New Year's came around we went outside and from all directions could hear and see fireworks that the neighbors were putting off. It was one of those moments that I breathed in the freezing air and closed my eyes and had that realization that "I am living in Sweden". Truely amazing, what a fantastic New Year's Eve I will never forget!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful New Year's celebration! What fun it looked! And the lights and candles and FOOD!
